First there was fast drying paint... but that wore away after only a few months and with the inability to hold glass-beads - nighttime visibility was ineffective. Then there was thermoplastic... but that became soft in summer, brittle in winter and ineffective on aging pavement. Then came polyesters... but their basic molecular chemistry revealed short-life on concrete and limited reflectivity on asphalt. Then there was epoxy... and although epoxy solved the issues the others did not, it still failed to provide a long-lasting cost solution.
