Utah's Largest Spaghetti Bowl

Salt Lake City, Utah 2004 The Salt Lake City “Spaghetti Bowl” consists of the I-15 and I-80 Interchange as well as portions of SR-201 and I-215 near Downtown.  The entire stretch of freeway and surrounding bridges was rebuilt prior to the 2002 Winter Olympics which took place in Salt Lake City.

The project, which was begun in 1997, was completed in May 2001, both ahead of schedule and well ahead of the Olympics. This project totaled more than $1.3 billion and encompassed more than 140 bridges.  The Utah Department of Transportation had concerns that all of the decks in the project would age together and create a major rehabilitation problem ranging from 30-70 years down the road. Link to full story...
