ABC - Better Transportation for Tomorrow utilizes UREGRID. We are today faced with the challenge of repairing aging infrastructure in high-traffic areas that must maintain traffic flow. Delaying repair activity comes at the cost of risking safety and more extensive and expensive repairs. In order to minimize congestion from service closures, Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) is being adopted by many State Departments of Transportation with Federal Highway Administration support. ABC utilizes a combination of innovative construction methods and prefabricated components to essentially fabricate the bridge components off-site in a controlled environment and then put them together on-site. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is a leader in ABC, which they first adopted to meet the infrastructure demands of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Over the past 8 years, they have been successful in identifying best practices to optimize its implementation. UDOT’ s experience was proven effective for their recent replacement of the US-6 (MP 200) Bridge near Spanish Fork, Utah. For this installation, precast components were built for the abutments, beam girders and deck panels, which introduced three unique benefits in addition to the obvious minimized service closures - quality was increased, costs were lowered and the build time frame was shortened. However, connecting prefabricating components on-site creates many joints - a critical problem because these joints become weak points for the intrusion of water and other elements that over time, deteriorate and compromise the structure’s integrity. POLY-CARB’s spray applied membrane MARK-155 UREGRID was selected as the solution to waterproof the deck surface and these critical joints between closure pours. UREGRID is robust enough to function effectively on various kinds of concrete and offers excellent properties to compensate for various expansion/contraction rates. If you visit the UDOT website, you will find their mission clearly defined as "Quality Transportation Today, Better Transportation Tomorrow." In working to master ABC methodology with technologies like MARK-155 UREGRID from POLY-CARB to seal and protect, UDOT is achieving exactly that. To learn more about this project and how to protect your infrastructure from the insidious effects of water, salt, weather and wear, contact POLY-CARB at 1.800.CALL.MIX. Over the last 37 years, POLY-CARB has become a leader in manufacturing premium quality polymer system solutions and materials that offer unparalleled value, performance and service. POLY-CARB recently introduced its Asset Preservation Performance-Based Model, which offers guaranteed, long-term protection to postpone deterioration and perpetuate the life of infrastructure assets More information about POLY-CARB, a division of Dow Formulated Systems, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company is available at www.poly-carb.com. | | Location: US-6 MP 200 Spanish Fork, UT Material System: MARK-155 UREGRID Project Scope/Size: 30,230 sq. ft.
